Cartulinas del Tianguis II (Comemos por los ojos)
Commissioned by the Google Artist in Residence program

2021
Mountain View, California

This mural is a continuation of a series of paintings depicting her hometown's markets, where the canopies cast a vibrant pink light over vendors' goods. Oasis-like, Hernández's market offers a shift in perspective, where food is an expression of artistry. The focus of this piece is on the handmade signs created by vendors, which are informative and even humorous. Hernández merges the transactional elements of the signs with messages about family and the cultural importance of food in Mexico.

Signs of reconnection
Commissioned by 100 Days Action

2020
San Francisco, California

The Art for Essential Workers project was launched by 100 Days Action as part of the Paint the Void Project during the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative brought together artists to install wheat-pasted artwork on boarded-up storefronts throughout the city. The project's mission was to respond to the crisis by creating messages of optimism and solidarity specifically for essential workers who continued serving their communities during this challenging time.
